“I am absolutely convinced that the only way to save ourselves is to save ourselves.”
Born on November 23, 1977, in Miami, Florida, Kionne L. McGhee grew up as the oldest of six children in South Miami's Naranja Housing Projects. The system stamped him “emotionally handicapped” at the age of six, placing him in special education classes where he would remain through 12th grade.
The numbers told a story of guaranteed failure: a 78 IQ, 1.9 GPA, 580 SAT score, and a 0% statistical chance of surviving past the age of 21. Kionne McGhee chose to write a different story.
Determined to redefine his destiny, McGhee rode a Greyhound bus to Washington, D.C., walked into Howard University with nothing but a dream, and three weeks later received his acceptance letter.
Today, he stands as a Howard University graduate, Thurgood Marshall School of Law J.D., Founding Partner of the Kionne L. McGhee Law Group, former Florida House Democratic Minority Leader, Miami-Dade County Commissioner, Vice Chairman of the Board, proud Brother of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., national motivational speaker, college professor, and bestselling author — living proof that your past does not own your future.
Kionne McGhee brings the raw, lived truth of overcoming impossible odds to every stage. His keynotes have moved audiences from classrooms to courthouses, boardrooms to community centers.
The signature keynote drawn from his bestselling memoir. Kionne walks audiences through the raw reality of growing up in poverty and the unstoppable power of daring to believe when every statistic says otherwise.
From assistant prosecutor to minority leader, Kionne illuminates how servant leadership and moral courage can reshape systems — and empower communities to demand what they deserve.
Placed in special education from age six, Kionne now holds two prestigious degrees. He speaks passionately about dismantling negative labels and the audacity of intellectual ambition.
A seasoned legislator who won his first election by 45 percentage points, Kionne ignites civic engagement and inspires the next generation of leaders to step into power without apology.
Named a Second Chance Advocate by The Miami Times and a Superhero by Children of Inmates, Inc., Kionne speaks to those who feel society has written them off — and shows the roadmap back.
Armed with quick wit, legal precision, and a pastor’s heart, Kionne delivers transformative messages on accountability and building the life you were destined to live.
